Evaluation photo essay
I stated in my proposal that I’m going to base my essay on my nephew, and I did that. He loves a camera. I’m happy with what I created and came up with as my final piece. Altogether I took a total of 43 pictures because he kept moving or the shots became blurred.
I used a lot of close up shots focusing on his facial expression, the reason I focused on his facial expression because he can pull humorous faces but at the same time look cute. I managed to capture some low angle and high angle shots of my nephew-including one of him crying, which was one of my favourites.
For a long while I was contemplating whether to use black and white photo’s or colour, so I decided to include a bit of both.
I had a slight problem with the soundtrack, for the first 10 seconds it doesn’t play. I need to fix this problem.
I tried to make my photo essay a bit humorous at the end by including a sound effect of a crying baby. I did this because it matched with the image of my nephew crying. The reason I chose to add the sound effect because I didn’t want it to be just a boring slide show of pictures. The music I chose was called nursery rhyme music from you tube, it’s slow, calm and sounds playful to match with young children.
The editing was fairly simple this time round, I’m getting used to final cut pro each week. I used the fade out transition which blends in well. I chose this transition because I’ve used it before numerous times and after inputting it, I thought it look suitable.
I’m extremely happy with what I came up with but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place for improvement. I’m excited at the prospect at the fact that I can put my video to good use and show my nephew when he’s older.
I received feedback about my essay, the majority of the group liked the images but couldn’t understand why there was no music for the first 10 seconds. I have plans to edit my video and sort that problem out.
I hope you enjoy the video
